I have decided to start a photo blog of sorts to highlight some of my most favorite photos that I've taken, and will continue to take. I am a bit old school --- The photo should stand on its own without any Photoshop enhancements, adjustments, fixes. A lot of what I see out there now is an altered photo. I believe you should use your eye, the camera equipment and get the shot based upon these skills. I don't always succeed, but I find that when I do? It is so gratifying. Enjoy...

Autumn Swim
This shot was taken at the Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary. Dogs are allowed, but I always find it funny that Annabelle, the bird dog, can go to a "bird sanctuary." Also, it is never too cold for a swim. She wanted us to join her. No thank you!
Side Note: No birds were seen.

BWCA Fires
This isn't really "good photography" but there is an interesting story surrounding the photos. One of the days we were visiting the BWCA, we were able to see the extensive smoke from the fires that were started by lightning at Pagami creek (The below photos were both taken at Lake #1 - BWCA)
We chatted with one of the firefighters there. We were amazed at the fact that they paddle in with 1,000's of pounds of equipment to assist in fire fighting. WOW! We asked him if he enjoyed it, and he said that absolutely loves doing the work. We thanked him profusely. Every one of the firefighters we encountered had a very nice attitude and had nothing but respect and kindness for us nosy-parkers. Maybe they actually just liked seeing Annabelle. HAH! The photo below shows a SMALL portion of all the stuff they have in those canoes.

Birds of a Feather
This pileated woodpecker was way up high on a pine tree in the campground we were staying at. He was chatting at us quite a lot, so TK took Anna and told me to get some pics. I got the camera out of my backpack and got it ready to shoot, when the bird flew right down to within three feet of me in a smaller pine. He was a little shy at first, but then got into having his photo taken.

Splash of Color --- on a dreary Day
On the way back from our road trip to Vail, Colorado last year, we decided to detour into the Badlands. Before we went, we had asked several people in Wall, South Dakota if it was really worth it on such a drab and dreary day. They assured us that the scenery would still be compelling. It was tough to capture the beauty of it without good lighting, but I did manage to capture some color.

The Ol' West
One of my favorite travel photos is the one shown below. We took our first "drive" vacation with, our then, 9 month old Annabelle. I had just taken a wild guess at finding a nice place to stay outside of Moab, Utah. I couldn't have picked it any better than this. our little cabin was nestled in a huge valley halfway up the La Sal mountains just south of Moab. http://www.discovermoab.com/la_sal_mountain_loop_road.htm.
Scattered throughout this valley, were various old time farm implements that just added to the absolute charm of the place. In the shot below, I believe I captured a small glimpse of that long ago time.

Ghost Loon
Woke up early Sunday morning at the cabin to find it foggy. We went to the lake to give Anna some "swummy" time and then walked out onto the dock. To the loon and our surprise, there he was floating in out of the fog.

Money Shot
It doesn't happen often, but once in awhile....I will click the button and just KNOW that I got the perfect shot. There is a small adrenaline high. In this photo, I had taken several shots but the last one, it seemed like everything lined up perfectly, and all went quiet. I looked at the little view finder of the D70 and sure it looked good, but one never really knows until they download. I was at the cabin, so had to wait a couple days until I got home.
